Public Works Department,

Hongkong, 20th. September, 1917.

To

The Honourable

The Director of Public Works.

Sir,

I have the honour to call your attention to the

fact that the quarry which was opened about three years ago at Tent Taz Hui is having a deteriorating effect upon the value of my property in that vicinity.

I purchased I.L. 1914 from Goverment in 1912 and erected a house thereon at great expense and risk to myself under the existing Civil Service Regulations and with the knowledge of my Superior Officers, and it was not until about 1 years subse- -quent to the occupation of my house, that Goverment opened the quarry.

I now find that, although the locality and house are attractive and healthy, intending purchasers view the erist- -ence of the quarry unfavourably on account of its close proximity to the base of the pretty bill on which the house stande, its un- -sightly appearance, and also on account of the noise and dust which issues from the quarry when blasting and cutting stone.

I therefore have the honour to enquire:-

(1) If it is the intention of Goverment to continue the use

of this quarry indefinitely.

(2) If it is the intention of Government to continue the

use of the quarry indefinitely, will Government under- -take to duly compensate me for all prejudice or los8 incurred consequent upon such continumce.

I have etc.,

(Sd.) J. C. Mackay,

Land Bailiff.
